Your Focus & Your Attention Units

Attention is a power we as human beings can activate within us. We can’t make a shift in our life without starting with awareness and when doing so, it heightens the awareness of your attention’s focus. Have you heard of the saying, “Energy flows where attention goes”? This is such a powerful statement to meditate on as it defines our direction every single day. If energy is poured into what your attention is poured into, wouldn’t you want to be sure you are only giving your attention units to things that matter? things that will benefit where you want to go in life? I know I would!

You know…we are only given a certain amount of attention units every day. What is an attention unit? An attention unit is your ability to stay focused on a certain intention. When we wake up in the morning, we are restarting from the day before with a clean slate and are blessed with a new chance to change the way we think, react, feel, and what we focus on. Unfortunately, the circumstances and situations of life outweigh the amount of attention units we have. This is why checking in with yourself in the morning is so important (You can check that out in my last blog post here ) You want to be sure you are doing things for yourself first so you can save your attention units for what serves you.

This means, starting off your day without getting caught up in social media, work emails, or anyone else’s problems but instead start off, reviewing your goals, meditating, engaging in some form of physical work, etc.  You want to do your best to start on this path and set your intention for the rest of your day. Create the trajectory for your day as a positive one and one that is leaning towards your goals. When you create this shift at the beginning of your day, not only are you setting the tone but you are subconsciously pouring your energy into what matters. You are setting the bar with your intention and pouring love into that focus. With everything that comes your way throughout the day, you will have a better understanding of how to react to it and how to better distribute your attention units for what matters – using them in a way that is more productive rather than focusing on situations that don’t matter and cause you to react in a way that your attention units are wasted.

Your ability to stay focused is something that is happening at the conscious and subconscious level. You are taking in what is going on at the conscious level and your subconscious is already processing the automatic reaction to it. Think about it this way, when your conscious mind is registering a situation at hand and your subconscious mind is focusing on the automatic reaction you are about to give, than you’re using up most of your energy on what’s not important, causing neural chaos before you can even respond which in turn, can arise feelings of anger, disgust, sadness, etc. Neural chaos happens when your conscious and unconscious mind are not aligned. This is why having the awareness of how scarce your attention units are, and being mindful about how you use them is so important.

When you are aware of these things, you are able to calm the chaos and assess the situation from a state of observation. You see that your attention units are not needed in a negative situation and neither is your energy. You are aware that if you give your units away to something that does not serve you, than you will not have enough attention to focus on the things that DO serve you and your goals and your passions. You become aligned with your consciousness and you begin to know where you would rather have your energy flow. With this awareness, your reactions to situations are reassessed and you find inner peace. At this point, you can take that step back and react to the situation from a place of clarity and instead of wasting your energy with those negative feelings, you eliminate that find yourself responding with compassion, understanding, and from a higher level of consciousness.

Set your intention for each day to vibrate at a higher level of consciousness and flow with inner peace. Save your attention units to do the work for your inner and outer self. This has been a major shift for me thus far in my spiritual growth. I have learned how to react and how to control the chaos that can evolve within my mind. I have learned to create several different neural thought patterns that guide me to inner peace and bring me back to the path I’m supposed to be walking. A path that aligns with where I want to go and who I want to be. Even if that path is still leading to the unknown, I trust in my soul that it is the right one. You got this!
